The FNP awarded prof. Daniel Gryko with new funds for research related to COVID-19!

17 June 2020

The Foundation for Polish Science has announced the results of the assessment of applications submitted by the beneficiaries of the current projects funded under Measure 4.4. of the Smart Growth Operational Programme related to combatting the COVID-19 pandemic.

The call was open for the beneficiaries of FNP grants, among others TEAM, and the applications submitted to the competition had to be directly related to combatting the COVID-19 pandemic, including, e.g., biological, medical, epidemiological, diagnostic and crisis management issues, etc. related to SARS-CoV-2.

One of the 14 awarded grants was awarded to prof. Daniel Gryko. The professor proposed the synthesis of a compound – a chemical marker that could be used to detect the virus. The structure of the molecule is expected to fulfill two tasks: join the coronavirus and give a visible sign of this fact to the observer. The fluorescent building block of the compound assumes the fulfillment of the following properties: appropriate fluorescence intensity, good photostability and a narrow emission band.
