The team of Dr. Maciej Giedyk in collaboration with Dr. Stefano Crespi developed a controllable, photocatalytic strategy for divergent modifications of chlorobenzamides via either C-H arylation or N-dealkylation. The article was published in ACS Catalysis.
The developed reactions proceed with the intermediacy of N-acyliminium radicals and cations, which serve as precursors of highly valuable products: isoindolinones or secondary amides. The experimental conditions are exceptionally mild and involve aqueous micellar solutions as the reaction environment and methylene blue as a photocatalyst.
