Research activity

Research activities of the Mass Spectrometry Group concentrate on the gas-phase chemistry of the phenide anions and anionic sigma-adducts. We have developed a method for the in-source generation of the substituted phenide anions from the appropriate benzoic acids using an electrospray ion source. The reactions of these anions in the ion source and in the collision cell can be studied using a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. An important example are the reactions of di- and trinitrophenide anions with selected C-H acids resulting in the formation of anionic sigma-adducts, which opens a way to study these species in a gas phase.

We are also continuing our research on the fragmentation reactions mechanisms upon electron ionization, especially ion-neutral complexes and elimination of the small neutrals. Particular attention is directed to the EI-induced reactions of N-alkoxymethyl derivatives of the secondary amides, sulphonamides and phosphamides including lactams and sultams.
